Beeing and its commitment to biodiversity

Beeing comes from deep knowledge and true respect for bees and nature.

Since the first projects were designed, our work had the simple and revolutionary aim of protecting bees, digitizing beekeeping and spreading urban beekeeping as a tool for a transition to sustainable cities. Over the years, Beeing designed and developed many products and services. Each of them follows a different path with the mission of protecting biodiversity: urban beekeeping, biomonitoring of air quality, hive adoption, sustainable gift ideas, seminars and awareness-raising workshops for schools and companies.

The idea is to bring to light the importance of pollinators for the resilience of ecosystems and for the protection of biodiversity: supporting their health and their repopulation is the way to a positive impact on the environment.

Beeing x urban beekeeping

One of the first products we developed is B-BOX, the first hive designed to host bees in an urban environment.

B-BOX was created with the aim of bringing back pollinators, essential for the preservation of biodiversity, in all those areas where anthropic activity put them in danger.  B-BOX is built in compliance with the needs of the swarm that it hosts. At the same time, it is designed to be safe for people to approach it without the need of protective clothing.  B-BOX represents a world where bees and humans live in harmony. And it shows that it is possible.

Beeing x beekeepers

The populations of many pollinators are now in decline. The available data show in fact an increase from 5% – 10% to 25% – 40% in the winter deaths of bees and increasing deaths during the spring-summer period. Factors such as habitat destruction, physical and chemical pollution and the effects of climate change endangered managed and wild pollinators, making it hard for beekeepers to run their businesses.

In order to support beekeepers, Beeing created a program of long-distance hives adoption. The adopted bees are in good hands: they live in the apiary of one of the professional Italian beekeepers Beeing chose as partners.

To adopt a hive, you simply want to choose the closest beekeeper from the Beeing network (if you are from Italy, there will definitely be one in your area, you’ll see!) and the length of the adoption period. Once the hive is adopted, you will receive regular updates on the health of your bees and jars of honey, the fruit of their work. In addition, you can visit the apiary whenever you want.

Beeing x wild pollinators

Honey bees (Apis mellifera) are not the only extant species of bee, nor the only endangered one! The family of pollinators also includes wild bees, such as Osmia bee and bumblebee.

These insects, equally valuable for biodiversity, are often forgotten. Since they do not produce honey, their populations are not managed nor protected from the practice of beekeeping.

In order to make life easier for wild pollinators, Beeing created the Bee Hotel. The Bee Hotel is a wooden house designed to host wild bees during the cold season. These bees will understand that the little house is for them, because its small cavities do not encourage the nesting of any other kind of bee (wasps and honeybees live in large groups, so they won’t be attracted by the Bee Hotel).

It is important that those insects, once protected, have floral resources available for them to feed. For this reason, together with the Bee Hotel you will receive a mix of seeds of flowers, chosen because they are very rich in pollen and nectar, as well as very colorful to decorate your garden!

Beeing x the awareness raise

In pursuing our mission of protecting bees and biodiversity, we develop and coordinate educational and awareness-raising projects targeting municipalities, associations, companies, schools and universities.

Our projects are made possible by the expertise of our network of professional beekeepers, sustainability consultants, scientific partners and research centers. The projects mainly concern the creation of smart urban apiaries, the biomonitoring of air quality thanks to the work of bees and experiences of training and team-building.

We suggested those ones, but many of our best projects have been shaped on the needs and suggestions of our clients.

Beeing x responsible purchase and consumer awareness

Beeing is in contact with organic beekeepers from all over Italy and we want to put this precious collaboration at the service of our community.

For this reason, we offer a service of resale of organic honey, coming from small local realities, as a sustainable gift idea for employees and customers, as a wedding favor or for any special event.  Honey jars can be decorated and branded for an even more personal gift.  Supporting the production of local organic honey encourages the food chain to shorten and discourages the use of chemical pesticides, harmful to the environment and its biodiversity. Sometimes a small gesture carries a big message.

Your, our, positive impact on biodiversity

Thanks to our projects for companies, more and more are increasing their Company Social Responsibility (CSR) and their positive impact on the three spheres of sustainability: environmental, social and economic.

All Beeing projects can be adapted to the needs of the company and included in the sustainability report, which recently became mandatory for many companies.

Thanks to our projects for families, schools and individuals, many people have turned their focus on sustainability into concrete actions.

There are hundreds of B-BOXes installed in Italy and around the world, and thousands of hives adopted at the apiaries of the Beeing network.
