The B-BOX kit comes in 3 boxes and needs to be assembled.
The assembly is very simple, and we also provide a step by step video tutorial.
Since the parts are made out of wood, you should treat the material appropriately. It is important to use a natural water based sealer to not harm the bees β remember that the B-BOX is going to be a permanent house for your new guests! Once you have protected the hive with a sealer, you can paint the hive whatever color you like. Check out the different customizations at the bottom of this page!
The next step is deciding the right placement of the B-BOX. This is an important decision that will impact your bees' health.
Then itβs time to find a beekeeper who can provide you with a swarm of bees. Bees usually come on 4-5 frames, but if the colony is a bit bigger, thatβs also okay, and they will accordingly come on more frames. The B-BOX can fit up to 10 Dadant or Langstroth frames.
To insert the swarm in the beehive is quite simple but it must be done wearing proper beekeeping clothes, since you will have to come into direct contact with the bees. If you have some knowledge of beekeeping, you can install it by yourself. Otherwise we recommend taking a small beekeeping course or relying on a local beekeeper to help you out.
When it comes to the honey production, it varies based on the surrounding environment and the season. Normally you can harvest 20-30kg of honey per season. In the most favorable conditions, the bees can produce up to 150 kg! It also depends on the size of your colony.
