Bumblebees ad a treasure to be preserved

Bumblebees, being part of the same family of the bees, share with them the fundamental role in pollination. In particular, they play a crucial role with regard to the pollination of many plant species and, in particular, some plants fruit-bearing with premature blossoming. Their role as pollinators becomes even more relevant when temperatures drop below 9° when honeybees lose their ability to fly. On the contrary, bumblebees maintain the ability to fly even between 3° and 9°. Therefore, bumblebees and some species of solitary bees are essential in pollination typically in cold regions.

Some studies have shown that the next 40-60 years can be crucial for these creatures and how a 75% can be put in danger by a progressive and constant loss of their habitat. Human activity and climate change leading to habitat change are the main factors behind this threat. In addition to this, variations that occur as a result of the factors seen before lead to a decrease in biodiversity and therefore in plant varieties. This considerably impoverishes the bumblebees’ diet resulting in weakening them and exposing them to the risk of disappearance.

One of the measures that can be taken with the aim of safeguarding these creatures is to create areas where these species can be accommodated and have the correct variety of plants at their disposal. We at Beeing are committed to ensuring the constant presence of pollinators in our gardens.
